Visiting the Napa Valley means a few things need to be in order before embarking on a cultural, culinary, and scenic journey. From the beginning of Napa Valley all the way to the end towards Saint Helena, there are many choices when it comes to hotels and accommodations. This past month I had the pleasure of staying at the Meritage Resort & Spa which is situated right at the heart of Napa. Only about 10 minutes from the booming downtown, it is in the perfect location for being emerged into all types of adventure.

When you drive up to the hotel, it is easy to tell that it blends in perfect with the “winery” experience. The large entrance and extravagant lobby welcomes you into a relaxing atmosphere. On the back side of the hotel lies an incredible wine cave paired with their established spa. It is one of the only spas in the world built entirely in a cave, as you walk in, the essence of relaxation floats through the treatment rooms and spas. After a treatment here, you can walk across the cave into the Trinitas winery tasting room which I think is brilliant. When I stay at a hotel, I like it to be a destination – somewhere you can stay for the entire day and never have to leave. At the Meritage Resort you can do exactly that. Wake up, have excellent room service breakfast (I suggest the poached eggs or waffle), then make your way to the spa to finish out the morning. Then do lunch at one of the two different restaurants and finish the day with wine tastings at Trinitas. Crush Ultra Lounge, Meritage’s newest addition has opened up with bowling lanes, brilliant for ending a day at the hotel with some fun.

Uniquely, the resort offers many onsite activities and always has some culinary or wine experience on offer. These next few weeks, the hotel is doing a series called “Masters and Makers” , an event that allows guests to have a curated wine and food pairing and emerge into a foodie adventure.

The Meritage Resort has created a destination where you never have to leave and yet still completely experience what Napa Valley is centered around: wine, food, and culture. The other key player in staying at the Meritage is the rooms. Spacious, luxurious, and equipped for a long or short stay. The moment I walked into the room, all I could think was this was made for royalty. The bed featured a luxurious canopy backdrop, there was a living space to relax in, plus a wonderful patio with views of the vineyards. It was the kind of room that made me sleep in, relax, and have a leisurely morning.

The time at the Meritage was a wonderful experience and loved the easy access to all of the wineries across Napa Valley and yet still having the ability to completely relax at the hotel. If you are looking for a peaceful retreat in the Napa area, the Meritage Resort is an excellent choice.
