Not too much longer and it will be time to brush off the dust and pull out our ski equipment for the winter season. Growing up near the mountains, snowboarding and skiing was a childhood staple. I remember days we would skip school to go ride the fresh powder in the Tahoe area.

The best part of taking a long weekend at the mountains is riding all day and then cuddling up by the fire at night in the cabin. With so many options for skiing these days and the ease of bringing your gear with you, why not take a quick flight to try something new? Being blessed to live near Lake Tahoe, I knew the resorts to well and it was time to try something new. This winter season head out of state to try a new location for ski! These are some of the best ski weekends in the USA:

1. Lake Tahoe, California

Yes, I am quite biased but this is a sure hit. What is great about the Tahoe region is all of the options for skiing. Whether you want to try the ex-Olympic games host Squaw Valley, head to do back country at Northstar Resort or a less crowded place like Sugar Bowl; there is plenty to choose from. This is a great location to rent a cabin with friends or head to the Ritz Carlton at Northstar for a more luxurious experience.

2. Sun Valley, Idaho

I would imagine this would of been what Aspen was like before it was star-struck. Don’t get me wrong there is a plethora of wealth just less of the Hollywood atmosphere. With only one mountain to ride, but one of the largest mountains, this is a great location to get your ski in. Everything is quite close so getting around is easy and means you’re on the slopes in no time.

3. Jackson Hole, Wyoming

For the more off the beaten path experience, this is where to go. Typically pretty quiet, this a great place for long runs and less people. The terrain is some of the best country and gets rated top resort year after year. The town is packed with some of the best resorts and the dining options are great.

4. Telluride, Colorado

Is there anything more magical then the Rocky Mountains? Some of the freshest snow in the country. This is a great destination to dive into a culinary experience, fine accommodations and killer skiing.

5. Deer Valley, Utah

This is the creme de la creme when it comes to fancy. The town is luxurious, dining extravagant and the mountain packs big game. Great terrain, the resort is maintained very well and allows for an all around nice weekend.
