One of the most magical stays to date has been out in the Yucatan jungle at Coqui Coqui Cobá. Its full name, Coqui Coqui Papholchac Cobá Residence & Spa is one of the many amazing Coqui Coqui properties in Mexico.
Located near an important Mayan archaeological site and next to a lagoon, Coqui Coqui Cobá is otherworldly. Surrounded by the serene noises of the jungle, the intimate retreat feels disconnected from the rest of the world. After years of eyeing this property, I finally made it out for three nights with my husband for a peaceful retreat.
It seems that whatever Coqui Coqui creates is always pure magic. Their vision for design and creating a space that blends into the surroundings is memorable. As for this residence in Cobá, their inspiration drew from the nearby Mayan ruins. Limestone is used to create a sort of “fortress” that looks like it was discovered hundreds of years ago.
The residence is split into two sides where a vine-covered wooden bridge connects terraced rooms and two turquoise pools await. In total, there are two King Palapa Suites, and two Laguna Suites (including the Jungle Villa). Each of the suites is carefully decorated with Safari-inspired furniture, stone material, and earth tones.
If you’re coming to this part of the Yucatan Peninsula, I’d highly recommend booking a few nights here. There are things to do nearby, but I think you’ll find that a few days of staying at the residence to unwind is perfection.

Coqui Coqui Papholchac Cobá Residence & Spa
Good to Know
It’s located in a small town called Cobá. It’s around a 40-50 minute drive from the Tulum beach area. From the airport, you can estimate around two hours. Though you can take a taxi here, you’ll find having a car will make it a lot easier to get around. Rental cars in Riviera Maya are great if you plan to explore.
When to Book
This is a small property with only four rooms and they book out quickly. I’d recommend booking far in advance to secure a room. FIND THE BEST RATES HERE. (rates include breakfast).
At The Residence
You’ll find a spa, library, gardens, two dipping pools, and a restaurant. You have everything you need here right on the property. It is a family-friendly hotel, beds are available for kids at an extra cost per night (includes their food as well). For dining, we had all of our meals here on the property as you’re quite limited with what is nearby. The menu has several options.
Good to Know
Like all of their properties, you’ll find that it is set up for you to disconnect. There are no TVs here. As the property has a “natural” element to it, you’ll want to be comfortable with uneven ground, stairs, and other terrains.
Here are a few photos from around the property at Coqui Coqui Cobá. It’s an idyllic location that blends in perfectly with its surroundings.
We booked the Jungle Villa room, an incredibly spacious suite with two floors, 4 terraces, and a connected pool connected. The interior was bliss with stone floors, 1920’s explorer decor like botanist prints and books, and antique pottery. I truly have never experienced a suite quite like this.
Upstairs, the king bed, a large walk-in closet, and two soaking tubs await. And of course, two of their signature locally-made hammocks hung up for use. Downstairs, a large living area, another bathroom, and one incredibly unique shower etched into the limestone.
Each morning we started out with breakfast on the patio with their fragrant house teas and pastries, served with a view. Here’s a look at a few photos:
