"The minute I walked through the door, the feeling of being in a palace was overwhelming."
The Hotel Bernini Palace is set right at the heart of Florence, just steps away from the Uffizi and a short walk to the iconic Santa Maria di Firenze. What was once a 15th-century palace, has now turned into an elegant hotel that boasts 74 well-furnished and palace-like rooms.
The history of the Hotel Bernini Palace is immediately experienced during the stay. Walking through the halls of the first floor, the antiques and high ceilings bring you back in time yet all the while are modern and elegant. In the past, the hotel hosted some of the most important figures of the Italian Renaissance, making the long history of service at the hotel even more special. The Hotel Bernini Palace truly serves an accurate portrait of the rich past to be found in Florence, all wrapped up in modern day luxury.
Each morning was spent in one incredibly special room that was the former Buvette of Parliament. Today, it is known as the "Hall of Breakfasts," where the frescoed room boasts portraits of some of the most important people of Florence. As I sat there at breakfast, I spent most of my time gazing up at the ceiling — this dining experience was one of a kind. Downstairs in the lobby, I often retreated to the lounge under the vaulted ceilings for an Aperol Spritz, a classic cocktail in Florence. You can catch glimpses of people walking through the piazza, making it a great spot to hang out. One evening, I made my way up to the terrace at sunset to see the views over the rooftops — the perfect place to finish off the day.
Rarely do I find myself spending more time than needed in a hotel room, but this one at the Hotel Bernini Palace was memorable. I came back every afternoon to enjoy a drink and work from the hotel suite as it was just that good. I remember the moment I walked in, immediately gasping at the view. It was like a picture frame, but real — an unobstructed view over Florence with the Santa Maria in it. The luxurious yet well-appointed suite had timeless beauty. The hanging chandelier was elegant, and the antique touches felt like I was living in an Italian palace. The bathroom had two sinks, a comfortable shower, and the right amount of space to get ready each morning. It is easy to say that the suite was a highlight of my time in Florence.
