Arriving at the Liberia Airport in the Guanacaste Province of Costa Rica, a short drive brings you to the Papagayo Peninsula. The land is vibrant, the Culebra Bay is inviting, and the Andaz Peninsula Papagayo Hotel & Resort is the ultimate place to call home.
A quick flight from LAX, it seems that within no time you've escaped the bustle of the city and arrived in paradise. I've always wanted to explore Costa Rica and when I saw photos of the Papagayo Peninsula, I couldn't believe the natural beauty. The Andaz Peninsula Papagayo Hotel & Resort takes the best of the local culture, meshes it with refined architecture, and gives guests a first class experience of the "pura vida."
The days at the Andaz Peninsula Papagayo Hotel & Resort felt natural. With the goal of experiencing a bit of the culture and taking time to relax, there was no rush at all. Set on the mountainside, the views from the hotel are unparalleled. Each morning, Daniella and I were eager to sit out on the patio and take it slow while overlooking the Culebra Bay.
The afternoons were spent diving into the cool ocean waters or sitting poolside at one of the two pools on property. As the day cooled off, the monkeys would come out to play and I couldn't contain my excitement to see the wildlife come alive. With a refreshing drink at the bar as the sun set its last rays on the bay, the night brought on a new adventure. As there were three restaurants to choose from, dining was exciting. The food was exceptional with locally-sourced ingredients and flares of Costa Rican cuisine. The drinks? It was hard not to try them all.

The Andaz Peninsula Papagayo Hotel & Resort offered many great things to do during the stay. One of the highlights was a barista class. The afternoon was spent trying local beans, learning different preparation techniques, and sipping away some of the best coffee I've ever had. The class was an opportunity to experience Cosa Rica's vibrant coffee culture, right at the hotel.
With complimentary non-motorized water sports, kayaking and paddle-boarding were an absolute must in the morning. The views back at the hotel were stunning, and the clear waters made for an adventurous experience. Afterwards, a trip to the spa was in order. With steam rooms and jacuzzis, you could take a morning to soak and then get a massage.
Though the Andaz Peninsula Papagayo Hotel & Resort had much to offer, it was hard not to retreat back to the stunning room for some down time. Walking in, the fresh colors and sleek lines made the space feel welcoming. A large patio overlooking the bay and a shower that was open air was indeed the star of the show. With many amenities, the Andaz Peninsula Papagayo Hotel & Resort thought of everything you could need for your stay — a complimentary mini bar with soft drinks and snacks was a plus!
The time at Andaz Peninsula Papagayo Hotel & Resort was everything I hoped for. It brought in much of the local culture through food and experiences. You could be adventurous or lay low, providing the best of both worlds. With incredible service that didn't feel over the top, the team at the Andaz Peninsula Papagayo Hotel & Resort created an experience that was memorable. The Papagayo Peninsula is an incredible place to escape to for a week or even a long weekend.
