Holiday season is upon us, and this time of year brings up many traditions for my husband and I. We grew up near Lake Tahoe, and often retreated there as kids with our families. The past few years, we have been going there during winter for a weekend escape, either the two of us or with friends. So when Express asked me what unexpected holiday traditions I have, this is what came to mind.
I love to recharge and rewind during the holidays, to take a step back from the hustle and bustle of the season. The idea of taking the short drive to Lake Tahoe to be in a cozy cabin is my ultimate holiday tradition.
Lake Tahoe is special to me for a few reasons. I have many fond memories going up with my family to snowboard on the weekend, racing down powder hills on a perfect bluebird day. During the summer, we would head there to cool off at the lake when the summer heat was in full effect. My favorite memories were when we would spend time in a cabin during the holidays, playing games to the wee hours of the morning and cooking breakfast together — you can't forget the smell of bacon on the skillet.
For me, being in a cabin is all about the words comfort and cozy. Express's collection of oversized knits and comfy sweaters were the perfect match for the cabin. Their soft materials make cozying up on the couch by the fire that much more comfortable — I ended up choosing this loose fitted distressed sweater in ivory.
Black denim is always a staple of style and comfort, and with Express' comfortable low-rise denim, I found it easy to be content in them all day. For a cabin escape, comfortable boots are a must, and these by Express were the perfect pair to wear during the day and easily transitioned at night. (I also loved these tall boots, the non-heel version, and these classic black ones.)
Recharging and unwinding are staples of my holiday tradition, and a cabin is the ultimate place to do it. My husband and I had the best time in this adorable A-frame on the south shore. We spent our mornings rising with the sun, reading books with a big mug of coffee in hand. Afternoons were slow, we walked by the lake and enjoyed the cool air. This is one tradition that I'll keep forever.
