To say this island had coconut trees would be a complete understatement. The island was packed with coconut trees; everywhere you looked the skyline boasted these thin giant tall trees. (I think the photos below will prove this point.)

The Dominican Republic lies in the Caribbean and shares the Eastern part of an island with Haiti. Its capitol is Santo Domingo and the island is the second largest Caribbean nation right after Cuba. It is actually one of the most visited countries in the Caribbean year after year. Only a few hour flight from the East coast of the US or an 8 hour flight from the West coast, the Dominican has many options for arriving timely.

As most people head straight for the stunning beaches that have the softest white sand and breathtaking turquoise waters, Punta Cana is a top destination. Punta Cana has one of the larger international airports on the island, and is where most are headed for sun. Of course this part of the island offers your typical water activities like snorkeling day trips, zip lining, horseback riding, and para-sailing; but there are a few other ways to enjoy the island.

One way to spend the day is a day trip to the exotic island off the coast called Isla Saona. This island is hotel free and untouched. Of course Bavaro Beach is one of the most popular places to spend the day as it is famed for the best beach in the area. However there is another body of water to be discovered called Hoyo Azul, the natural cenote at Scape Park which offers more ecological excursions. Punta Cana is a beauty that surely should not be missed, no matter how you spend the days.

Whatever your cup of tea may be, this island offers much to do. For myself, I have no problem with enjoying the coconut tree lined skylines and a fresh margarita on a beach bed.
