Often when we hear the word Cancun, we think a U-shaped peninsula slammed with hotels on top of each other and spring break music in the background. It would be hard to imagine a resort with the environment top of mind and sustainable living. I though the same until I went and spent a few nights at this wonderful property.
Drive thirty minutes south of the big city into the strip of beach between Puerto Morelos and Playa del Carmen. The well-known hotel group Karisma has their infamous flagship property there, El Dorado Royale and El Dorado Casitas Royale. The triple A four diamond resort El Dorado Royale is located in the heart of the Riviera Maya. The property has much to offer as it is two resorts in one. The casitas are the “luxury” private section of the original El Dorado Royale. Turn down service and all-suites are part of being in the more exclusive section. It was great, every night having my room filled with the aromatherapy of my choice, bed turned down and always some little surprise
The resort has its own farm on the property and what they are doing with it is both inspirational and one of a kind. The all-inclusive resort as it’s “Gourmet Inclusive” program that is making the commitment to be conscience about the environment. The property has it’s own greenhouse that they are using to source most of their food. The greenhouse was an initiative to bring to their guest high standards for food that are free of chemicals and create less pollution. The “farm” is located at El Dorado Royale but grows enough food for other resorts owned by Karisma. The majority of the produce coming out is fresh herbs and vegetables that are used in all the restaurants on the properties.
The casitas were beautiful. My room was to die for and screamed romance on all levels. The outdoor shower (indoor as well), indoor jacuzzi and round shape room made for a comfortable setting. The property has a juice bar that I walked to every morning, and made for a great way to start the day. The best part of the beaches was that there were tons of day beds and cabanas and staying in the casitas gave you beach side butler service with a private section on the beach.
Overall the property is a beautiful place to take a vacation getaway or romance focused trip. The Riviera Maya is a beautiful part of Mexico with much to do from snorkeling to exploring the cenotes.
*El Dorado Casitas Royale welcomed me as a guest, all opinions are my own.
