Byron Bay is a top holiday destination on the coast of Australia. Eastwards of Sydney and south of Brisbane, this town along the ocean is the place to be. During the summer, it’s hard to find parking, the streets are packed and the waves filled with surfers. This destination attracts different crowds, friends renting a house to party, a family looking for a getaway or in my case a spa retreat.
I had my eye on this particular resort before I had even purchased tickets to Australia. Perhaps it was the world renown spa or the fact that it was immersed in a rainforest, the Byron at Byron Resort had caught my attention. When I found out we were headed to the land down under, I declared my desire to go to Byron for a spa retreat.
When you pull up to the resort which is just a bit south of the main town of Byron, you know you’re in an oasis. “Paradise found” should really be the welcome sign. The property meshes nature and luxury in a way that is unique. The property use to be a wildlife reserve and a lily pad farm, so the resort is gushing with flora and fauna.
The style of the Byron at Byron reminds me of modernized Bali. Clean lines, dark woods and bright linens decorate features of the resort. The rooms here are another story. Staying in just the basic room, I was blown away. We had two enclosed outdoor patios (front and back of room), a full kitchen with dining table, separate living room, a linen hallway with closet, and a bathroom that would blow anyone’s mind away. The bathroom was unique with a large soaking jacuzzi and a shower that had windows with open air access to the patio (sort of an outdoor shower without the mess of bugs). The room was flawless, stocked with fresh tea, new linens everyday and great amenities. The resort is setup so that you never really need to leave your room.
The resort is a destination all within itself. The numerous walkways through the lily ponds and rainforest, private access to the beach (you cannot swim at this one but is still beautiful), a spa and world class restaurant. The pool is quite the main attraction as it is lined with tall trees with a stunning vanishing edge. Every night we had happy hour and watched the sun go down, looking for the occasional flying fox to make an appearance.
It is worth a day at the spa as it is tranquil. Overall the service here was outstanding and we were well taken care of by the resort. It was a pleasure to stay here and I already look forward to another return. Cheers to the Byron at Byron for spoiling us with a relaxing stay!
