One of my first trips as a blogger back in 2015, was to the country to Jordan. These 7 incredible experiences in Jordan are just the highlights of the trip. I came home with a new fire lit under me and a passion for discovering new cultures outside of my normal circuit. It was a two week trip of adventure, emotion, and curiosities that inspired me for many years to come. I still to this day when asked my favorite country in the world, respond with “Jordan.” It’s a magical place, with deep historic roots, rich culture, and cuisine unlike anything I’ve tasted before.
So when I say where should you go to be surprised, I always recommend Jordan.
Here are 7 incredible experiences in Jordan:
1. Exploring the history of Petra.
There is not a more quintessential place in Jordan than Petra itself. Often the main reason that visitors go, this historic cultural epicenter is one wonder in the world everyone should see at least once. There’s no feeling like walking through the winding Siq to open up to the incredible Treasury carved out into the face of the rock. It’s mesmerizing, and even just writing about it gives me shivers.
2. Floating in the Dead Sea.
Have you ever felt weightless? Floating in the dead sea is magical and an opportunity to swim in these salty waters in unlike anything else.
3. A 4X4 adventure into the vast desert of Wadi Rum.
If you want to feel like Indiana Jones on a wild ride, head into Wadi Rum. The desert seems to go forever, and the magical dunes always glisten in the distance.
4. Cook with a family in Amman and get a taste of the local food.
One of my favorite experiences was in Amman and getting to take a cooking class at Beit Sitti. We sat on an open terrace as we cooked the family’s recipes and learned more about each of the special ingredients that went into each dish.
5. Stay overnight with the local Bedouins and sleep under the stars.
One experience that is a must-do while in Jordan, is a traditional Bedouin camp. At night you sit around the campfire, listen to traditional music, and fall asleep to the starry skies of Wadi Rum.
6. Head to the Citadel in Amman and take in the most incredible view.
It’s a great way to start off the trip in Jordan — the viewpoint from the citadel. It gives you an insight to the sprawling city and a look into the old ruins dating back to 720 A.D..
7. Take a Roman history lesson at the ruins of Jerash.
One of the most incredible sights in Jordan is outside of Amman at Jerash. One of the best preserved Roman cities in the world, you can get a taste of the past through the architecture and ruins.
