Being in Barcelona the past six weeks has been so much fun to explore. We’ve realized that there is so much to learn about the history of the city. When Piri Guide, the Self-Guided Audio Tour App, told me about their three day audio tour in Barcelona, I jumped on the chance to learn more about where we live.

We often walk by these places and know little about them. In fact, we’ve been to Barcelona multiple times before and never knew that the church Santa Maria del Pi has the word “pine” (pi in Catalan) in it because there was a famous pine tree in the courtyard at the time. All of this and more was just a few of the great stories and facts we learned on our Piri Guide tour we did of Barcelona. (You can download the app here)

Visiting Europe? How to Be Your Own Tour Guide
With self-guided English tours in Italy, Spain, Czech Republic, France, Holland, UK, Ireland, Turkey, Germany and, Hungary, Piri Guide has something at almost all of the top spots. I’ve often strayed away from in person guided tours when traveling, finding it hard to follow along and not having the freedom to explore as I want to.
Piri Guide allows you to go at your own pace, all while learning the incredible history of each sight in the destination. I’ve been guilty of snapping a photo and not taking the time to learn the story behind each place, and it’s truly these stories that connects us with these incredible sights.
The Tour We Did in Barcelona
In Barcelona, Piri Guide has a self-guided audio tour called Gaudi’s Stone Canvas. It’s a 3 day tour with 36 stops, bringing you to places like the famed Sagrada Familia to Montjuic Castle. Their professional guides have short audio clips that you listen to on your phone when you get to the destination, and trust me, these are not your everyday guides, these are destination experts.
As you follow along, the location-aware audio guides you through and you can even click the location and open Google Maps to direct you. After three days of going through Gaudi’s Stone Canvas, I was incredibly impressed by how much I learned about this city.
What I loved About Piri Guide
Through the course of the three days, I really enjoyed going at my own pace. I got to decide how much time I spent seeing and exploring a sight like Barcelona Cathredal or Passeig de Gracia. Using my phone and a set of headphones (I kept one in my ear), I could walk, learn, and experience at the same time.
The Piri Guide App is really easy to use and its intuitive, click-through screens allows you to navigate the city as you like. You can see where you’re at on the map in accordance with each of the sights, see which places you’ve completed the audio tour for, and get routed accordingly.
How to Use the Piri Guide App
It’s super simple — download the app, purchase the tour (download on WiFi or Data), and start following along. You can listen to the tour offline, so need to worry about being connected while you’re traveling.
Along the way, if you want to stop for a bite or even shopping, there are “Guide Suggestions” to help point you along the way. After a stop, just pick up where you left off.
