When it comes to traveler benefits, the I Prefer℠ Hotel Rewards program is one not to miss. Staying with Preferred Hotels & Resorts means you can enjoy some of the best perks of being an I Prefer Member at independent hotels around the world.

This past week I had the opportunity to stay at one of Preferred Hotels’ best properties in Barcelona — the iconic Hotel Miramar. Overlooking the expansive city of Barcelona, it truly does have the best seat in the house. Originally an art-deco palace, the now renovated hotel boasting 75 rooms, a world-class spa, and an incredible restaurant sits perfectly on Montjuïc hill. My tip for an exclusive experience? Take full advantage of the I Prefer Member perks to make it a stay to remember.

From early check-in to room upgrade, here’s what I loved about being an Elite member with Preferred Hotels & Resort’s I Prefer Program.

The Best Perks of Being an I Prefer Member
The Early Check-In.
Arriving early at Hotel Miramar, we were able to check in immediately into our room. One of the perks of being an I Prefer Member is early check-in when available at the hotel — there’s nothing like getting into your room early and getting to settle in. (all members get this perk!)
The Room Upgrade.
One of the best surprises during a hotel stay is a room upgrade on arrival. Hotel Miramar was able to upgrade us to a stunning corner suite because of being an I Prefer Member . With a grand terrace, a spacious room, and spa tub, the stay was that more luxurious. Part of being an I Prefer Member is the opportunity to upgrade at check-in, (always based on availability) and is certainly one of my favorite perks.

Welcome amenity.
Being an Elite I Prefer Member, there’s always something extra in the room for you — a welcome amenity! Checking into the room, we had a gift bag with some of my favorite candies from Sugarfina, a beach bag, and a cosmetic bag full of goodies from the spa. It’s touches like that make a stay memorable.

I Prefer points for Dining & Spa
We had points in our account that we could convert to be used towards dining and spa at the hotel. After a long day exploring, we decided to take our points and use it towards in-room dining. We had the best night eating in our robes, enjoying the view, and not having to leave. As an Elite member of I Prefer, you get 15 points for every $1USD spent and as a Insider member, 10 points for every $1USD spent on hotels and on property!

In this post, I share how to earn points with Preferred Hotels & Resorts. You can use points towards dining and spa depending the hotel.
We loved getting to experience the luxury of Hotel Miramar. Other perks like complimentary Wi-Fi and exclusive member rates are some of the other great parts of being an I Prefer Member. Use this link to enroll and start earning points + perks towards your next stay.

PS — Are You Booking a Trip Soon? Use My Booking Checklist!
These are the sites I use most to book my own trips. Using the links below is a great way to support Bon Traveler’s travel journalism at no extra cost to you. If you need help organizing your itinerary, get my free travel itinerary template here.
1. Book Your Accommodations
I use Booking.com for hotels and Airbnb for vacation rentals. They have the biggest inventory and consistently offer the best rates.
2. Book Your Rental Car
Self-driving is the best way to explore most destinations. I use Discover Cars for our rental cars, select full coverage insurance, and opt for a reputable company like Alamo, Hertz, or Sixt.
3. Book Your Tours & Experiences
I use Viator, Airbnb, and Get Your Guide to find the best tours and experiences. They are my favorite tour search engines. I always check all three as their inventory varies depending on the destination.
4. Book Your Private Transfers
For easy, reliable private transfers, I use Welcome Pickups. It’s my go-to for arranging a driver in advance — whether it’s an airport pickup, a hotel-to-hotel transfer, or a day trip. The experience is seamless, with English-speaking drivers and upfront pricing, so you can travel stress-free at every stage of your trip.
5. Get Cell Data for Your Trip
I use Holafly for international cell data. Their unlimited data eSIMs are easy to install, activate instantly on arrival, and let you skip local SIM cards and expensive roaming fees.
6. Don’t Forget Travel Insurance
I never leave the country without travel insurance. It provides comprehensive protection in case anything goes wrong (ie. illness, injury, theft, or cancellations).
My favorite companies that offer the best coverage and rates are:
- World Nomads (best for all-around)
- Safety Wing (best for frequent travelers)

Jessica
