Santorini, Greece has become a special place to me as it was one of my favorite stops in the Greek isles. The people are so friendly, warm smiles everywhere you go, the food was made with passion and the views, well were memorable. I loved exploring Fira and Oia and finding hidden cafes on the side streets. Santorini is a diverse island that has many different ways to enjoy it. These here are the top things to do in Santorini….

Watch The Sunset
Taking in the sunset is a must do in Santorini and each part of the island has a different view. I loved looking back on Oia from Imerovigli as much as the view from Oia looking back on Thira.  Make sure to catch both as they each have a different effect!

Sail The Aegean Sea
During the day there are numerous catamarans for rent or tours that take you around the Calderas. The views back onto the cliffs of Santorini are breathtaking.

Walk The Old Santorini Cliff Road
From either Imerovigli or Oia, you can walk the cliffs edge through little towns all the way to Fira. From Imerovigli to Fira it is only 30 minutes and if you do Fira to Oia it is about two hours. Along the way there are cafes, great views, old architecture and of course more views.

Try The Local Food
If there is something that Greece is known for it is their classic dishes like hummus, gyros, fresh seafood and good white wine. Find a spot that is off the beaten path, branch off and try something new! I loved the grilled octopus!

Sunrise From Skaros Rock
From Imerovigli you can walk out to the old fortress that is off the island. About 30 minute you can scale up the side the mountain and it is the best view in town. This was my favorite thing I did the whole trip!

Ride A Donkey Up The Steps
Yes a bit “touristy” but really come on, you have to ride the donkey up. You can do it from Ammoudi Bay or from Fira Port. Wear pants and be ready for a bit of ride as it can get hectic.

Jump Into The Aegean Sea
Nothing like taking a dip into this fresh water on a hot day. The locals head down and sun bathe by the water and enjoy the afternoon, my favorite spot is Amoudi Bay.

Wine Tasting
Santorini island is filled with unique vineyards that grow like baskets close to the ground. Naturally the white wine is to die for and a visit to a local winery is the perfect way to spend the afternoon.

Explore Amoudi Bay
At the very end you can take the 200 something steps down to this little port for a fresh meal along the water, one of the few places to do so in Santorini. The local fishermen bring in the catch and they grill it right there!

1. Book Your Flights

I use Skyscanner to find the best flights. It searches 100s of airlines and websites across the globe to ensure you’re not missing out on any route options or deals.

2. Book Your Accommodations

I use for hotels and guest houses. They have the biggest inventory and consistently offer the best rates.

3. Book Your Tours & Experiences

I use Viator or Get Your Guide to find the best tours and experiences. They are my favorite tour search engines. I always check both as their inventory varies depending on the destination.

4. Book Your Rental Car

Self-driving is the best way to explore most destinations. I use Discover Cars for our rental cars, select full coverage insurance, and opt for a reputable company like Alamo, Hertz, or Sixt.

5. Don’t Forget Airport Lounge Access

I use Priority Pass to gain access to 1,400+ VIP lounges and airport experiences worldwide. The Priority Pass app is the first thing I check when I have a layover. I’ve been a member for over a decade, and having a comfortable place to relax before and between flights makes air travel so much more enjoyable.

6. Don’t Forget Travel Insurance

I never leave the country without travel insurance. It provides comprehensive protection in case anything goes wrong (ie. illness, injury, theft, and cancelations, etc.). I use it frequently for my travels to stay protected.

My favorite companies that offer the best coverage and rates are:

  1. A walk around any of the Santorini (Thira) villages will have you admiring the countless blue domed churches with masterpiece bell towers, fundamental samples of Cycladic-style architecture.
