Best Neighborhood for a Lowkey Break: Østerbro

Copenhagen’s calm and classy neighborhood, Østerbro, is characterized by wide tree-lined streets, elegant apartment buildings, and families out cycling together. If you want to enjoy a more low-key city break, this is a quieter, more residential area compared to Vesterbro or Nørrebro. But that doesn’t mean it lacks things to see or do in the area.

Østerbro is home to one of Copenhagen’s most iconic sights, The Little Mermaid. Spend your morning with coffee and pastries at Fælledparken, Copenhagen’s largest park, or enjoy the lakes and leafy boulevards in one of Copenhagen’s greenest corners. The area is also filled with boutique stores and Scandinavian design shops rather than big tourist chains. Cafés here are cosy and local, with excellent coffee and pastries. Just a short cycle or metro ride from central Copenhagen, it’s a great alternative to the busier city center.
