Summer is one of my favorite times of the year and arguably the most jam-packed. Summer work trips are in full force, weeks turn into weekends away with family and friends, and there are endless adventures to be had. I love it all — the chaos, the fun, and the memories. With making time for long weeks on the road and then coming home, I am always in search of pieces for my wardrobe that empower me to live in the moment. I’m talking about those pieces that make me feel confident, whether it’s worn in my office, on the road traveling, or weekend adventures. A mentor in university once told me that how you feel in your clothes will empower you to embrace challenge — it’s something I’ve always kept in the back of my head. Which is why when Athleta approached me to try out their new travel lifestyle products, I couldn’t have been more excited.

When I received my package, I knew that Athleta was in my corner. And when I say that, this is why: Athleta is all about “the power of she” — empowering women, like you and me, to live confidently and be the best versions of ourselves. Their clothing is designed to fit and flatter all body sizes (yay!) and needs — that means no more focusing on the insecurities of my body but truly embracing who I am so I can be the best me. The materials for their travel lifestyle collection are made with high quality fabric, are lightweight, and wrinkle-resistant. Stretch materials and bands around the waists means extra comfort while sitting in a car or plane and the fabric is ever so soft. The best part? They’re incredibly flattering on and transitional.  I can go from the plane and straight to a restaurant and not worry about having to change. When I pack for a trip, I want to be confident that the pieces I have chosen fit well and allow me to enjoy the moment instead of pulling at my clothes all day.

Over the weekend, I took three outfits out on a road trip that could be worn comfortably in the car, then out and about while exploring the Nothern California coast. Coming home from a month abroad, I was eager and excited to head up north to my favorite places with Travis. The sun was out in full force during the afternoon, so I felt extra confident knowing that the pieces I took are made with unique UPF sun protection materials and have eco properties like Recycled Nylon and Poly, so it’s easier on our environment. We started at our favorite breakfast spot, Wild Flour Bakery, where I wore the Pronto Pleated Dress. I normally don’t wear tight dresses , but the thicker material and pleats were so flattering on, and after inspecting a few photos, I exclaimed to Travis, “I can’t believe how good this dress looks on!” (I kid you not!). I adore exploring the grounds with a coffee in hand and plotting out my dream garden. (Travel tip: The bakery is cash only).

Continuing the road trip, we made our way through the countryside, popping in and out of towns along the way to Monte Rio. I changed into the La Viva capri and Linen Ruched tee combo to wear for a walk along the river — the material of the pants and shirt are breathable, so any sweat goes through the fabric and evaporates on the outside! This part of the river is stunning and you can also rent kayaks or canoes if you want to go explore more. Afterwards, we grabbed a quick bite in town at El Barrio for some tacos before our last stop.

To end the weekend, we took the road out to Jenner — which sits along the ocean — to one of my favorite views. It seems that all California road trips end at the ocean. The ocean always make me feel so grounded — it’s something about the waves rushing on the shores and pulling back out. It helps me reset for the week. I was wearing my favorite outfit from the weekend, the white Essence twist tee with the Soho Cropped Jogger in black olive. On the coast in Northern California, the weather changes quickly and can go from full sun to fog, so I opted for the Soho jogger as the material is made with a Featherweight Stretch fabric, so it’s lightweight but also kept me warm in the wind.

PS — Are You Booking a Trip Soon? Use My Booking Checklist!

These are the sites I use most to book my own trips. Using the links below is a great way to support Bon Traveler’s travel journalism at no extra cost to you. If you need help organizing your itinerary, get my free travel itinerary template here.

1. Book Your Flights

Use Skyscanner to find the best flights. It searches 100s of airlines and websites across the globe to ensure you’re not missing out on any route options or deals.

2. Book Your Accommodations

Use Booking.com for hotels and guest houses. They have the biggest inventory and consistently offer the best rates.

3. Book Your Tours & Experiences

Use Viator or Get Your Guide to find the best tours and experiences. They are my favorite tour search engines. I always check both as their inventory varies depending on the destination.

4. Book Your Car

Use Discover Cars or Rentalcars.com to find the best car rental deals. I recommend comparing rental agency reviews on Google to ensure you are booking with the best company in that destination, as the reviews are often more accurate than the car rental search engines.

5. Don’t Forget Airport Lounge Access

Get a Priority Pass membership to gain access to 1,400+ VIP lounges and airport experiences worldwide. The Priority Pass app is the first thing I check when I have a layover. I’ve been a member for over a decade, and having a comfortable place to relax before and between flights makes air travel so much more enjoyable.

6. Don’t Forget Travel Insurance

I never leave the country without travel insurance. It provides comprehensive protection in case anything goes wrong (ie. illness, injury, theft, and cancelations, etc.). I use it frequently for my travels to stay protected.

My favorite companies that offer the best coverage and rates are:

Jessica
