Summer winds, the warm sun, and those turquoise waters of Europe always call my name. These 7 blissful coastal escapes in Europe are at the top of my list.
Over the years, these destinations have won me over. Small European villages dotted along picturesque coastlines is a dream. A plethora of fresh seafood restaurants, local boutiques, and gracious b&b’s puts these seven places as my favorites.
7 Blissful Coastal Escapes in Europe
Cinque Terre, Italy
One of my first trips in Italy included a few nights in Cinque Terre. Five villages in a line, cling onto the coastline of Italy’s Riviera. It’s nothing less than magical and the colorful towns are perfect for exploring.
When it comes to island escapes, Croatia has plenty. I loved Hvar for its friendly locals, good food, and incredible coves. The water here is something else too.
Santorini is hard to put into words. The steep cliffs descend down into the dark waters of the ocean and create a contrast like no other. It’s somewhere to come for a few days of r&r.
My favorite French village is Cassis. Set on the water, I love how cheerful it is during the summer, even with the crowds. Nearby are the Calanques as well which you can explore for the day by foot.
One of those places that often gets overlooked is Malta. This island country is home to blissful coastlines that have historic towns and villages to explore.
If you’re after the bluest water in Europe then Mallorca is it. I’d come here for a week to explore one of the biggest islands in the Mediterranean.
Often people forget that Lisbon is one of the biggest cities on the coast. It’s my favorite for a mix of city energy and access to the ocean within minutes.

PS — Are You Booking a Trip Soon? Use My Booking Checklist!
These are the sites I use most to book my own trips. Using the links below is a great way to support Bon Traveler’s travel journalism at no extra cost to you. If you need help organizing your itinerary, get my free travel itinerary template here.
1. Book Your Flights
Use Skyscanner to find the best flights. It searches 100s of airlines and websites across the globe to ensure you’re not missing out on any route options or deals.
2. Book Your Accommodations
Use Booking.com for hotels and guest houses. They have the biggest inventory and consistently offer the best rates.
3. Book Your Tours & Experiences
4. Book Your Car
Use Discover Cars or Rentalcars.com to find the best car rental deals. I recommend comparing rental agency reviews on Google to ensure you are booking with the best company in that destination, as the reviews are often more accurate than the car rental search engines.
5. Don’t Forget Airport Lounge Access
Get a Priority Pass membership to gain access to 1,400+ VIP lounges and airport experiences worldwide. The Priority Pass app is the first thing I check when I have a layover. I’ve been a member for over a decade, and having a comfortable place to relax before and between flights makes air travel so much more enjoyable.
6. Don’t Forget Travel Insurance
I never leave the country without travel insurance. It provides comprehensive protection in case anything goes wrong (ie. illness, injury, theft, and cancelations, etc.). I use it frequently for my travels to stay protected.
My favorite companies that offer the best coverage and rates are:
